Fact Check: This Visual Showing PM Modi Touching Sonia Gandhi’s Feet Is Photoshopped

A picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi touching the feet of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is widely shared on social media.

The above post can be seen here (archive). Another such post can be seen here.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture, and found it to be digitally altered.

Putting the picture in question through Reverse Image Search, the NM team identified a NDTV report, dated September 25, 2013, showing PM Modi touching the feet of veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani.

The picture was attributed to newswire PTI, stating that it was taken in Bhopal and Advani looked away while PM Modi touched his feet.

The above comparison shows that Sonia Gandhi’s cutout was superimposed on Advani in the original picture using the photo-editing software.

Hence, it is confirmed that the picture in question is morphed.
