Running the viral video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team discovered a media report from Independent TV, dated September 22, 2022. According to the report, following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, the protesters rushed towards a police vehicle in Amol, Iran. She had been detained by the country’s morality police for allegedly wearing a loosely-fitted hijab. While authorities claimed she died of a heart attack, her family challenged this account. The video in question dates back to 2022.
We also came across a media report from The Washington Post, dated September 21, 2022, highlighting the widespread outrage and protests that erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini.
Lastly, we discovered a tweet by an X user sharing the same video from 2022.
