Fact Check: Video Game Visuals Fictitiously Shared As Israeli Sniper Killing Hamas Fighters

Date:

A video depicting a sniper killing several soldiers is being widely shared on social media, linking it to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Following an unprecedented offensive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, the conflict has so far resulted in over 1,400 reported casualties in Israel and nearly 2,700 in Gaza. In response, Israel has carried out widespread airstrikes and now preparing for a ground offensive.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Hamas terrorists are killed with these types of weapons. He is dying without even knowing where the firing is coming from, that’s Israel”.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Performing a Reverse Image Search, our fact-check team traced a YouTube channel carrying the same viral video, dated October 9, 2023. As per its description, these visuals are from a military simulation game Arma 3, do not depict real-world events.

The channel’s About section emphasises a focus on computer simulations for entertainment.

Thus, we can conclusively say that visuals from a video game are falsely shared as Israeli Sniper is killing Hamas fighters.
