In response, Sarfaraz reportedly says, “Shubman Gill is the most overrated. Girls have hyped him up, but he doesn’t know how to play. Ruturaj is a far better player. Gill was made captain of the Gujarat team without any real skills. Jaiswal and Gaikwad are quality players, but Gill isn’t. His looks are the reason behind the hype. He’s connected to Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter, and that gives him influence. Sachin’s backing is the only reason he’s around. None of his performances stand out; he’s famous for all the wrong reasons.”

Cropping the key segments of the viral clip and performing a Reverse Image Search, the NM team identified a similar video uploaded on sports journalist Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel, dated January 22, 2023, with a title: “Sarfaraz Khan Exclusive: Why Suryakumar Yadav is an Inspiration”. In the 7.47-minute interview, Sarfaraz Khan discusses his cricketing journey, including his hard work, experiences in the Ranji Trophy, IPL, and more, without mentioning Shubman Gill at any point. Upon further comparison, it was found that the voice in the viral clip does not match Sarfaraz Khan’s actual voice, further discrediting the claims made in the viral video.
We further investigated the audio from the viral video and traced the original source to a YouTube channel, Reaction Yo21. In the video, uploaded on January 13, 2023, the YouTuber is seen asking random people on the street to name an overrated cricketer. One individual responds by mentioning Shubman Gill and proceeds to criticise him, echoing the comments heard in the viral clip. This confirms that the audio was taken from this street interview, not from Sarfaraz Khan.
Thus, it is confirmed that the viral video, claiming that cricketer Sarfaraz Khan has made adverse remarks against Shubman Gill, is digitally manipulated.
