A video showing a group of people brutally beating a woman with sticks is circulating widely on social media. In the video, a man is initially seen dragging the woman by her hair and hitting her with a stick. Soon after, three more individuals with sticks arrive in a car and join in the assault. Bystanders watch the horrific scene as the woman screams in pain.
The caption with the video asserts that this woman is from Kerala, who eloped and married a Muslim man. It alleges that after six months of marriage, her husband sent her to Afghanistan where she faces daily exploitation and public beatings for refusing to comply.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the claim attached to the video and found it to be FALSE.
Upon conducting a reverse image search of keyframes from the video, we discovered a news report published in Arabic in February 2024. This report indicates that the incident occurred in Raqqa, Syria, and the woman is identified as Lina Akla al-Ahmad. Using this information, we found additional Arabic news reports confirming the video’s origin.
The reports state that the incident took place in the Tal al-Saman area of Raqqa. Lina (victim) was beaten by her family members in public due to a misunderstanding. She had a stomach tumour, but a doctor’s misdiagnosis led her family to believe she was pregnant. Her three brothers and nephew beat her in public, ignoring her protests that she was not pregnant.
As a result of the assault, Lina suffered severe head injuries and was hospitalized in Raqqa. Some reports also mention that her sister, Aisha Akla al-Ahmad, was also beaten by the family. The police took action by arresting three individuals, while one suspect remains at large.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the video of a woman being beaten by her family in Syria is being falsely shared with a fabricated story claiming it involves a woman from Kerala sent to Afghanistan.
