A video showing a group of men forcefully draping a saree on an elderly man is doing the rounds on social media. It is claimed that the man is a BJP leader from Bihar, and that this act marks the beginning of a new form of protest ahead of the upcoming state elections.
With the political atmosphere in Bihar already charged and parties throwing accusations against each other, the viral video is being linked to the Bihar election campaign. Many users claim it as an example of public anger against politicians.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the claim and found it to be Misleading.
Running the video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, NewsMobile traces reports by Aaj Tak and NDTV, dated September 23, 2025. As per these reports, the incident actually occurred in Dombivli, Thane district of Maharashtra. The man in the video was identified as Prakash alias ‘Mama’ Pagare, a 72-year-old Congress leader, not a BJP leader from Bihar.

The reports state that Pagare had earlier shared a morphed photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi dressed in a saree on social media. In retaliation, BJP leaders in Dombivli confronted him on September 23 and publicly forced him to wear a saree as a form of humiliation. Pagare later lodged a complaint against the BJP leaders involved.
Apart from their web reports, NDTV had also uploaded the same video on its official X and Facebook pages, confirming the details of the incident.
The same was also confirmed in a detailed report published on News18 India’s YouTube channel on September 24, 2025.
Thus, it is evident that the viral video has been shared with a false claim. The footage is neither related to Bihar nor to the state’s election campaign. Instead, it shows a recent incident from Maharashtra, where a Congress leader was embarrassed by BJP workers in response to his controversial social media post.
