FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MILSEADING.
Running the video screenshots through Reverse Image Search, the NM team identified an article on the India TV website, confirming that the visuals are true of the Kawnpui railway station, but it’s in Mizoram, not Manipur. The collapse was caused by a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Mizoram.
According to a report by NE Now (a news portal app), the Kawnpui railway station was part of the Bairabi-Sairang railway project, aimed at connecting Mizoram with the rest of the country. By August 2024, 93% of the project had been completed. Unfortunately, a massive landslide on August 28, 2024, destroyed half of the station. The project’s completion was initially scheduled for March 2025.
Kawnpui is located in the Kolasib district of Mizoram, confirming that the viral video does not depict an incident in Manipur.
Thus, we can conclusively say that the video claiming collapse of the Kawnpui railway station in Manipur is fake. In fact, the railway station is in Mizoram.
