An image of the Sun rising inside the temple with a massive crowd gathered to see the event has gone viral on social media.
The image is shared with a caption, claiming that the picture is from Konark temple in Odisha, and this event happens once in every 200 years.
The caption associated with the image reads: “Orissa, konark temple. Sun rise from inside the Temple. It happens only 200 years once. FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be fake.
Doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found a similar image published on Shuttercock with a caption: “Buriram, Thailand-October 6,2018: Amazing, Tourists visit the Prasat Hin Phanom Rung, entrance gate with sunlight shine through the door in Prasat Phanom Rung Historical Park ancient Khmer temple.”
The same image had been uploaded by the website Bangkok Post with a caption: “The Sun sets through the 15 doors of Phanom Rung Historical Park in Buri Ram.” The article further explains that this phenomenal event happens four times a year.
Hence we can ascertain that the viral image is from Thailand and not India, and the event happens four times every year. Thus, the viral claim is misleading.
