Date:

After the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by BJP, convened a parliamentary meeting in New Delhi, the alliance leaders unanimously selected Narendra Modi as both the alliance’s leader and country’s prime minister.

Subsequently, social media users alleged that veteran BJP leader Nitin Gadkari did not stand and applaud PM Modi during the meeting.

The Facebook post reads: “Watch how Nitin Gadkari refused to stand up and chant Modi Modi. Glad someone showed the spine to resist this distasteful circus. What a video.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video, and found it to be misleading.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral video keyframes, the NM team spotted the live-streamed video of the NDA parliamentary meeting on BJP and PM Narendra Modi’s YouTube channels posted on June 7, 2024.

We reviewed the footage and identified a moment where it appeared to be claiming that Gadkari declined to stand and applaud PM Modi.

At the 1:59 minute mark, PM Modi is seen walking to the dais, with Gadkari standing among other BJP ministers and clapping for Modi.

At 2:09 minutes into the stream, we also observed that PM Modi was bowing and folding his hands in front of the Constitution of India. At this moment, Gadkari is also seen expressing appreciation towards the NDA chief.

At 5:01 minutes mark of the video, chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ resonate through the crowd, and Nitin Gadkari can be observed clapping his hands alongside BJP leaders Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar, and Piyush Goyal. This moment, captured in the viral video clip, was shared with missing context.

Throughout the NDA parliamentary meeting, Nitin Gadkari greeted and applauded PM Modi.

At the 58:34-minute mark, Gadkari is seen standing once again. This occurred when NDA leaders and other MPs raised their hands in favour of choosing Modi as their leader.

Hence, it is confirmed that a short video clip from the recent NDA meeting is being shared with missing context, suggesting that Gadkari didn’t stand and applaud PM Modi.
