Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently resigned from her position following widespread violent protests nationwide. Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced the resignation on state television, and stated that the military would establish an interim government. Against this backdrop, a photo of Hasina wiping away tears is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim it is her first image since her arrival in India.
A Facebook user posted the viral post (archive link) with the following caption:

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Running the picture in question through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found many Bangladeshi media outlets carrying the same image in July 2024. One such report by The Daily Sun, dated July 25, 2024, stated that PM Sheikh Hasina inspected various parts of the damaged metro rail station in Mirpur. The station had been destroyed during the recent violence associated with the student movement for quota reforms in public service.
The picture matches with the viral image and the date of the news article pre-dates Hasina’s resignation. As per the report, she became emotional after witnessing the vandalism at the metro station. She reportedly alleged that “conspirators were pulling the country back”.
Searching further, we found the image on AFP, which also confirmed that the photo was released by the Office of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on July 25, 2024.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show Sheikh Hasina getting emotional after reaching India, is false.
