FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team detected a TikTok post, dated June 2024, on the unverified profile of the Aslami foundation. The video matches with the viral clip, suggesting that “Students welcome their teacher to Muslim community event #love #muslim #brothers #respect #sheikh #fyp in 🕌 Mosque Centre in Bedford…”
Searching further, we came across a YouTube Shorts video on the channel of the Aslami Foundation. This video has been shot from different angles, but we can see that the person is the same. The About section links the accounts of ‘Sheikh Sufi Muhammad Asghar’ to the channel, indicating that’s the name of the person in the video. This is confirmed in a few more videos published on the channel.
According to a BBC report, dated May 17, 2024, Mohammed Asaduzzaman became the first ever South Asian Muslim mayor to be elected in Brighton and Hove.
We can clearly see that the person in the viral video is completely different from Brighton and Hove mayor Asaduzzaman. Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show the recently elected mayor of Brighton and Hove, is false.
