Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed eight cheetahs in the Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh — all the way from Namibia — on September 17, 2022. These animals were brought into the country after 70 years of their extinction in India.
Against this backdrop, a viral video showing a fierce fight between two animals is doing the rounds on social media. Many social media users have claimed that the feline in the video is one of the cheetahs that brought from Namibia, and that it is preying on a pig on its very first day in the national park.
A Facebook user posted the viral video with a caption: भारत आते ही चीते ने सबसे पहले एक लिटर सूअर को अपना पहला शिकार बना लिया (English translation: As soon as it came to India, the cheetah first made a pig its first victim.)

Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we found a YouTube Video, titled: Hyena Saves Wild Pig from Leopard’s Fatal Attack – 1080456, on a verified channel — RM videos, dated October 31, 2019. This indicates that the original video is around three years old, and has nothing to do with the cheetahs from Namibia.
As per the title of the video, the animals are — a leopard and a wild pig — contrary to the viral claim. In the full video, we could see one hyena interrupting the leopard’s attack while the wild pig escapes from its grasp.
The same video had been uploaded on the licensing section of Junkin media — an American entertainment company, for purchase. The video, posted on October 29, 2019, corroborates YouTube video’s claim, identifying its location to South Africa.
This confirms that the video has been existing online since 2019, and the feline in the video is not a cheetah, but leopard. A clear distinction can be seen in the black spots on the skin of the Namibian Cheetah (photo courtesy: Aaj Tak) and the leopard in the viral video.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video claiming that the feline is one of the Namibian cheetahs that is hunting a pig on its very first day is false.
