A video showing a man grabbing a young man by the collar, slapping him and later attacking him with an uprooted banana plant is being widely shared on social media with the claim that a BJP MLA from Assam assaulted a man during a bridge inauguration ceremony.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:
ENGLISH: The arrogance of BJP leaders is sky high, meaning their end is certain. These are BJP MLAs from Assam. When the inauguration ribbon turned pink instead of red, they lost their temper and started beating people. If this mistake is considered a crime, then these MLAs should be beaten in the streets every day because they make such serious mistakes.

NM VERIFIED
NewsMobile investigated the viral post and found the claims to be false.
To verify the viral claim, we conducted a reverse image search using key frames from the video. The search led us to a video report published on Munsif TV’s YouTube channel on March 20, 2025, carrying footage matching the viral video.
According to reports, Samsul Huda, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA from Bilasipara East Assembly constituency in Assam’s Dhubri district, had arrived at a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for a bridge. During the event, Huda allegedly became enraged over arrangements at the venue and assaulted a man standing nearby.
A keyword search led us to a report published by Free Press Journal and India Today North East on March 20, 2025, which also featured footage from the viral video. The report stated that Huda had attended a bridge foundation stone-laying ceremony on March 18, 2025, where he allegedly assaulted Sohidur Rahman, an employee of the construction company involved in the project.

According to the report, Huda arrived at the venue at around 3 p.m. for the foundation stone-laying ceremony and the inauguration of road and concrete bridge construction in his constituency. The event initially proceeded normally, but tensions reportedly arose over the arrangements, including the height of a banana plant near the foundation stone and the colour of the ribbon used for the ceremony. Huda then allegedly assaulted Rahman.

The incident triggered public outrage across Dhubri district, and an FIR was subsequently filed against the MLA over the alleged assault.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show a BJP MLA from Assam assaulting a man during a bridge inauguration ceremony, is false.
