Against this backdrop, a video showing a man in Muslim attire attempting to set fire to the fuel tank of a damaged Mahindra Thar has gone viral on social media. Those sharing the clip claim it shows a Cockroach Janta Party supporter during the Parliament march.
In the video, a vandalised black Mahindra Thar is surrounded by an angry crowd while a man, allegedly a 29-year-old NEET aspirant, tries to throw a burning matchstick into the vehicle’s fuel inlet. A police officer is also seen intervening to stop him.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:

NewsMobile investigated the viral post and found the claims to be false.
To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search using Google Lens. This led us to the same video uploaded by Purnia Central News, CNN News18 and Moneycontrol on Instagram on July 18, two days before the Parliament march. The captions accompanying the posts stated that the incident occurred in Gaya, Bihar, following a road accident.
A subsequent keyword search led us to a report by Dainik Bhaskar. According to the report, a Mahindra Thar collided with a motorcycle and an auto-rickshaw in Gaya on Thursday, leaving two young men on the motorcycle seriously injured. Eyewitnesses claimed the vehicle had a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sticker on its windshield.
News18 India also posted the video on their official YouTube channel.
The report further stated that locals alleged a woman was driving the Thar and that she was allowed to leave in the presence of police.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show a man in Muslim attire attempting to set fire to the fuel tank of a damaged Mahindra Thar and that he is a Cockroach Janta Party supporter during the Parliament march, is false.
