Verified: Meerut Christian Procession Falsely Linked to CJP Protest at Jantar Mantar

Date:

As the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest continues at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, several unrelated videos are being circulated online with misleading claims. One such viral clip shows a group of people, including individuals dressed as Christian pastors, marching down a road at night. Social media users claim the video shows Christian pastors joining the CJP protest to oppose the proposed FCRA (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which they allege targets religious conversions funded through foreign donations.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:

ENGLISH: 😡Priests from across India are arriving at Jantar Mantar in Delhi🤔 It is heartening that the real victims are now arriving at Jantar Mantar, as the government was about to introduce a bill in the monsoon session that would ban all NGOs that promote religious conversions in India by accepting donations from abroad and would allow the government to monitor the foreign funding of all NGOs. 👉It seems the time is now for a religious war, not a political one. 🚩🚩🇮🇳🇮🇳

NM VERIFIED

NewsMobile investigated the viral post and found the claims to be false.

To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video. This led us to an Instagram post uploaded by Shalam Chauhan on May 8, 2026, well before the ongoing protests. In the caption, Shalam stated that the video was recorded in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and showed members of the Christian community participating in a religious march.

We also found a report published by Dainik Bhaskar, which identified the event as the annual Christian pilgrimage in Meerut. According to the report, thousands of devotees participated in the procession, which travelled from St. Joseph’s Church in Begumpul to Sardhana Church. Local residents and social organisations welcomed participants with garlands, while police deployed security personnel and made elaborate arrangements to ensure the procession remained peaceful.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show Christian pastors joining the CJP protest to oppose the proposed FCRA (Amendment) Bill, 2026, is false.
