Social media posts purportedly showing a video of India and Japan signing an agreement allowing 50 million Hindus to settle in Japan are being widely shared online. The posts claim that the two countries have entered into a pact allowing millions of Hindus from India to settle in Japan.
Several social media users sharing the video are also claiming that the agreement is part of a new India-Japan initiative.

NewsMobile verified the claim and found that the post is misleading.
The NM team initiated its search with a keyword search using terms such as “50 million”, “Hindus”, and “Japan”, which did not yield any credible news reports or official announcements from either the Indian or Japanese governments confirming such an agreement.
We then checked official releases issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding India-Japan cooperation.
An MEA release dated July 30, 2026, referred to the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, held in Tokyo on August 29, 2025. During the summit, the two Prime Ministers released the Joint Vision for the Next Decade, covering cooperation across eight sectors.
The Joint Vision includes an Action Plan for India-Japan Human Resource Exchange and Cooperation, which has an aspirational target of exchanging more than 5,00,000 personnel in both directions over five years, including 50,000 skilled personnel and potential talents from India to Japan.
The official documents make it clear that the initiative concerns human-resource cooperation, talent mobility and people-to-people exchanges. There is no mention of Hindus or any provision allowing people belonging to a particular religion to settle in Japan.
The viral claim appears to have distorted the actual India-Japan human-resource exchange initiative, which targets more than 5,00,000 personnel over five years, including 50,000 skilled personnel and potential talents from India to Japan, into a false claim about 50 million Hindus settling in Japan.
Hence, it is evident that the claim that India and Japan have signed an agreement allowing 50 million Hindus to settle in Japan is false. The actual initiative concerns human-resource exchange and talent mobility and contains no provision specifically concerning Hindus or any other religious group.
