A video showing police lathi-charging a crowd is doing the rounds on social media with claims that it shows people in Uttar Pradesh raising anti-India slogans during a rally held in support of Iran after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The video is being shared alongside claims that the Uttar Pradesh Police used force after protesters allegedly shouted anti-India slogans at a rally organised following Khamenei’s death during an Iran-US attack.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:

NM VERIFIED
NewsMobile investigated the viral post and found the claims to be false.
Running the video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, NewsMobile found that the footage had been circulating online since November 2025, months before the recent developments in Iran. The United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28, 2026, and the same day Khamenei was reportedly killed. This confirms that the viral video predates the incident and cannot be related to protests following his death.

Further probe detects a longer version of the footage uploaded on the YouTube channel of News 9 Live on September 26, 2025, with a headline referring to stone-pelting and a police lathi-charge during protests linked to the “I Love Muhammad” campaign in Bareilly.
Reports by NDTV also covered the incident. As per the report, clashes broke out in Bareilly after Friday prayers on September 26, 2025 when protesters allegedly pelted stones. The police responded with a lathi-charge near Islamia Ground. The protest was linked to a poster carrying the slogan “I Love Muhammad.”
The report further stated that Tauqeer Raza Khan, head of the Ittihad-e-Millat Council, was arrested on September 27, 2025 for calling the protest in support of campaign. The video reports about the incident include same visuals that appear in the viral clip.
There are also no credible reports of violence during rallies held in Uttar Pradesh following Khamenei’s death. But some clashes between the protesters and police had been reported from Jammu and Kashmir.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show people in Uttar Pradesh raising anti-India slogans during a rally held in support of Iran, is fake.
