Verified: Old Video From UP Falsely Linked to Nepal Floods

Date:

A video showing a group of boys rowing a boat and finding a backpack containing money is going viral on social media. Users sharing the video have linked it to the devastating floods in Nepal, claiming that the boys discovered a bag filled with ₹500 Indian currency notes as the floodwaters receded.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:

Floodwaters turned into an unexpected treasure hunt when a group of boys reportedly discovered a bag filled with Indian ₹500 currency notes after the floodwaters receded. The surprising find quickly caught attention, with the boys seen examining the cash-stuffed bag amid the aftermath of the flooding.

The origin of the money and its rightful owner remain unclear from the available information. Such discoveries can occur when strong floodwaters sweep away belongings from homes, shops or vehicles and carry them to different locations. The incident has since gone viral on social media, leaving viewers shocked by the unusual discovery.

NM VERIFIED

NewsMobile investigated the viral post and found the claims to be false.

To verify the claim, we divided the viral video into multiple keyframes using InVID, a video verification tool, and conducted reverse image searches on several frames.

One of the search results led us to an Instagram account named Parshu_prankster, which had shared several videos featuring a similar-looking boat. The account also directed us to another Instagram profile, parshuram_676.

On this second account, belonging to Parshuram Nishad, we found the viral footage as part of a series of videos. Nishad had originally uploaded the video on July 14, 2026, at least a month before the Nepal floods.

After the footage began circulating with claims linking it to Nepal, Nishad himself commented on the viral post and clarified that the video was recorded in Uttar Pradesh. He identified the location as Vrindavan.

Nishad had also uploaded several other videos showing the same incident as a series on his Instagram account. These videos further establish that the footage was created as part of his own content rather than being footage from a natural disaster in Nepal.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show a group of boys finding a backpack filled with ₹500 Indian currency notes in Nepal floodwater, is false.
