NM VERIFIED
NewsMobile verified the claim and found that it is misleading.
The NM team initiated its verification by extracting keyframes from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a longer version of the same video uploaded on the YouTube channel of Hindustan Times, dated March 10, 2021. This clearly establishes that the video is nearly five years old and not related to any recent election developments.
Further investigation revealed that the video captures an incident from March 2021, when Mamata Banerjee sustained a leg injury in Nandigram after she was allegedly pushed by a group of individuals, shortly after filing her nomination from the constituency. In the video, Banerjee can be heard stating that she was “deliberately pushed” by four to five people, complaining of swelling in her leg, chest pain, and feeling feverish while returning to Kolkata.
The incident was widely reported at the time by multiple credible outlets, including Business Standard and BBC.
Hence, it is evident that the viral video has no connection to the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election results. It is an old clip from 2021 that is being falsely shared with a misleading claim.
