Verified: PM Modi Did Not Say India Is the World’s Largest ‘Beef Producer’ in New Zealand

Date:

A video clip purportedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the Indian community in Auckland, New Zealand, has gone viral on social media. Users sharing the clip claim that during his speech, Modi described India as the world’s largest “beef producer,” alongside being the largest milk producer and the second-largest fish producer.

NM VERIFIED

NewsMobile verified the claim and found that it is misleading.

The NM team initiated its verification by carefully listening to the viral clip to determine what Prime Minister Narendra Modi actually said. We found that in his speech, PM Modi stated, “Today, India is the world’s second-largest wheat producer. Today, India is the world’s largest milk producer. Today, India is the world’s second-largest fish producer…” There is no mention of “beef” anywhere in the clip.

To further verify the claim, we scanned PM Modi’s official YouTube channel and found the full recording of his address to the Indian community in Auckland, uploaded on July 11, 2026. The viral portion appears at around the 32:35-minute mark, where Modi can be clearly heard saying that India is the world’s second-largest wheat producer, the largest milk producer, and the second-largest fish producer. At no point during the speech does he refer to India as the world’s largest “beef producer,” confirming that the viral claim is based on a mishearing of the word “wheat.”

We also looked for credible media reports claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had described India as the world’s largest “beef producer” during any of his public addresses. However, no such reports were found from any credible media organisation. Had the Prime Minister made such a statement, it would have received widespread coverage by mainstream media. The official video of his Auckland address clearly shows that he referred to India as the world’s second-largest wheat producer, not a “beef” producer.

Therefore, it is evident that the viral claim is misleading and stems from a mishearing of the word “wheat.”
