A screenshot purportedly showing an Instagram story by Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty has gone viral on social media.
The viral screenshot states, “Don’t touch reservation. Let general category doctors treat only general category patients and let everyone else treat only patients from their own
caste. Do this for a few years and people will start asking to end caste based reservation themselves. You can’t get skill through reservation.” Let’s verify the claim.

NewsMobile verified the claim and found it to be misleading.
The NM team began its verification by examining the official social media accounts of Shilpa Shetty, including her Facebook, Instagram, and X profiles. We found no evidence to support the viral claim that she had spoken against caste-based reservations.
Instead, we found a post shared on her official X account on July 28, in which Shetty categorically denied the viral quote. She wrote, “I am shocked to see fake statement on reservation falsely attached to my name. This is completely fabricated, malicious garbage. Do not fall for this fake news.”

Her official Instagram stories also carried the same clarification, dismissing the viral statement as fabricated and urging people not to believe or circulate the misinformation.
To further verify the claim, the NM team checked credible media coverage and found that news outlets such as The Statesman and Outlook had also reported on Shilpa Shetty’s clarification, confirming that the viral statement was fake and had been falsely attributed to the actor.
Hence, it is evident that the viral claim alleging that Shilpa Shetty made a statement against caste-based reservation is false. The actor herself has publicly refuted the quote on her official social media accounts, calling it fabricated and urging people not to fall for the fake news.
