Verified: Video From Bangladesh Falsely Linked to West Bengal Polls

Date:

Following the swearing-in of Suvendu Adhikari as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 9, a video showing people running in panic and vandalising a building has gone viral on social media. Users are sharing it as visuals of chaos unfolding in West Bengal after the political transition.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:

ENGLISH: There’s a civil war-like situation in West Bengal today. Who is responsible for this? BJP workers are killing TMC workers, and TMC workers are killing BJP workers. Wherever a Muslim is seen, they are being abused and beaten. Mobicide is taking place. #reelsvideo #reelsviral #followers #viralreels #highlights #reelsfb #gujratireels #viralreelsfacebook #followersreels #reelsvideo #TMC #WestBengal #WestBengalNews #followers #followerseveryone #highlighteveryone #highlightseveryone #reelsvideo #reelsviral #higlightseveryonefollowers #followers #viralreels #highlightseveryonefollowers #highlightsシ゚ #reelsfbシ

NM VERIFIED

NewsMobile investigated the viral post and found the claims to be false.

To verify the claim, we reverse-searched keyframes from the viral video. This led us to a post shared by a Bangladeshi Facebook user on April 26, well before the developments in West Bengal.

The higher-quality version of the video carried a logo associated with a Bangladeshi source, indicating that the footage was not from India. Further examination confirmed that the clip predates the swearing-in ceremony and has no connection to West Bengal politics.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show unrest in West Bengal following the oath ceremony, is false.
