A video purportedly showing a man arguing with and assaulting police personnel is being widely shared on social media with the claim that it features Prabal Pratap, the petitioner who allegedly made abusive remarks against Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant inside the Supreme Court before creating a ruckus in the courtroom.
The claim surfaced after proceedings in the Supreme Court were recently disrupted when Prabal Pratap, an LLB student from Lucknow University, allegedly used derogatory language against the CJI during the hearing of his petition challenging an Allahabad High Court order. The bench subsequently dismissed his plea.
Sharing the clip, a social media user wrote, “Offensive remark against CJI Surya Kant: The lawyer is beating up a police officer just like local street goons in the alleys and neighbourhoods do.” (Translated from Hindi)

NewsMobile verified the claim and found that it is misleading.
During the investigation, the NewsMobile team extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a reverse image search. The search led us to a Bhaskar English report, published on July 11, titled “Advocate thrashes constable in Kanpur: Cop, who appeared drunk, suspended; FIR to be filed after probe.” The report carried the same video as the one now being shared with the false claim.
According to the report, the incident took place near the Kanpur court, where an advocate allegedly assaulted a police constable following an argument. After the video surfaced, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) ordered an inquiry into the matter.
The preliminary investigation revealed that one of the constables seen in the video had already been suspended and had been absent from duty for an extended period. The other constable was immediately suspended for disciplinary and misconduct issues. Officials also stated that the constable appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
To further verify the claim, we found the same video uploaded by several local media outlets on their Facebook pages, including Zee News English, around the same time.
We also found the clip on the YouTube channel Satya Hindi, which clearly identified the incident as having taken place in Kanpur.
None of these reports or uploads linked the video to the recent Supreme Court proceedings involving Prabal Pratap, the petitioner who allegedly used abusive language against the Chief Justice of India inside the courtroom.
Hence, it is evident that the viral video is unrelated to the recent Supreme Court incident involving Prabal Pratap. The clip is from a separate altercation near the Kanpur court and is being falsely shared with a misleading claim.
