A video purportedly showing a giant shark swimming through a heavily waterlogged residential area in Nepal is going viral on social media. The video shows muddy floodwaters covering a residential street, with several parked cars partially submerged, while a large shark fin appears to move between the vehicles.
Social media users shared the clip claiming that sharks had appeared in neighbourhoods following the devastating floods in Nepal.

NewsMobile verified the claim and found that the video is AI-generated.
NMT initiated its verification by conducting a reverse image search on keyframes from the viral video. The search led us to an Instagram account named ‘deep.seavisitor’, which had posted the video on December 6, 2025. The account regularly shares AI-generated content, and the caption accompanying the viral video also contained an AI-related hashtag, indicating that the footage was not authentic.
Further analysis of the video revealed several visual anomalies. The shark’s fin moves unnaturally in a straight path without any visible movement of the body or tail. The shark also fails to produce realistic ripples, waves or water displacement as it moves through the flooded street, further indicating that the footage has been artificially generated.
We also analysed the video using Hive Moderation, an AI-content detection tool. The analysis identified the video as more than 99% likely to be AI-generated.
Hence, it is evident that the viral video claiming to show a shark swimming through floodwaters in Nepal is AI-generated and does not depict a real incident.
