Canadian police have concluded their investigation into the tragic death of Gursimran Kaur, a 19-year-old Indian-origin woman who was found dead inside a walk-in oven in the bakery department of a Walmart store in Halifax last month. Authorities have determined that the death was “not suspicious” and ruled out foul play.
In an official statement on Monday, Halifax Regional Police stated that their thorough investigation, which included interviews and video footage analysis, found “no evidence of foul play” and concluded that no one else was involved in Kaur’s death.
“We conducted several interviews and reviewed video footage. I can share that our investigation has not led us to suspect foul play. We do not believe anyone else was involved. We acknowledge the public’s interest in this case, and that there are questions that can never be answered.”

Kaur’s body was discovered on October 19, reportedly by her mother, who also worked at the Walmart store. According to reports, the teenager had been employed at the store for two years. Her death initially raised significant concerns, with some coworkers speculating she had been locked inside the oven and “baked to death.”
Police initially described the case as “complex,” requiring the involvement of multiple partner agencies. However, the investigation ultimately concluded without identifying suspicious circumstances.
