Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar, a 37-year-old IT professional originally from Karnataka, was shot dead in a targeted attack in the Greater Toronto Area. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the Woodbine Shopping Centre in Etobicoke.
According to the Toronto Police Service, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3:30 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered Nandakumar with multiple gunshot wounds inside a white Hyundai SUV. Witnesses and crime scene footage revealed the vehicle was riddled with approximately ten bullet holes on the driver’s side. Nandakumar was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
Nandakumar, a resident of Brampton, had moved to Canada six years ago and worked for LTI Mindtree. He was a prominent figure in the Indo-Canadian community, serving as the Vice-President of the World Arya Vysya Mahasabha – Canada and a coordinator for the Kannada Sangha Toronto. His father, residing in Nelamangala near Bengaluru, has appealed to the Indian government for assistance in repatriating his son’s body. While the suspects remain at large, investigators believe the attack was targeted. This incident marks Toronto’s third homicide of 2026.
