LG to unveil budget smartphones at MWC 2015

Date:

New Delhi: LG Electronics is all set to launch its budget smartphones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

The four new devices – LG Magna, LG Spirit, LG Leon, and LG Joy – will be coming in 3G and 4G long-term evolution (LTE) variants. The LTE and 3G versions of each model share nearly identical design cues with metallic back covers distinguishing the LTE models while the 3G devices feature patterned plastic back covers.

According to LG, the LG Magna and Spirit are designed to be fit more comfortably in palm of one’s hand with its gently curved design.

Magna has a 5-inch screen, a 1.2/1.3-gigahertz quad-core processor, and an 8-megapixel back camera. The front camera is unusually powerful, at 5MP, which LG says is for selfie lovers. It has a 2,540mAh battery.

Spirit has a 4.7-inch display and the same processing power and back camera as its bigger brother.

The LG Leon has a 4.5-inch display, while the LG Joy features a 4-inch display.

With the new mid-range lineup, LG is carrying over UX features originally designed for its premium smartphones, such as Gesture Shot and Glass View, will also be installed on the new goods.

Gesture Shot, as its name suggests, allows users to take selfies using hand gestures at a range of 1.5 metres, instead of requiring them to press a button. Glass View allows the user to view the time, messages, and missed calls on the screen while the phone is turned off.

Except for Joy, the phones all have the latest Android OS, 5.0 Lollipop, installed. The handsets will go on sale in Brazil this month, and will be sold in other regions at a later stage.
