Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime continued his impressive run at the French Open, defeating Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros for the first time in his career.
The fourth-seeded Auger-Aliassime produced a commanding display on Court Philippe-Chatrier, cruising to a 6-3, 7-5, 6-1 victory in just over two hours. The win marked a significant milestone for the 25-year-old, who became the first Canadian man to reach the quarter-finals of all four Grand Slam tournaments
Having previously fallen in the fourth round in Paris in 2022 and 2024, Auger-Aliassime finally broke through at Roland Garros, advancing to the last eight for the first time. The achievement also saw him register his fifth Grand Slam quarter-final appearance, making him only the fourth male player born in the 2000s to reach that mark, alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton.
Auger-Aliassime was in control throughout the contest, using his powerful serve and aggressive baseline game to keep Tabilo under constant pressure. The Canadian converted key opportunities in the opening two sets before dominating the third to seal victory in emphatic fashion.
His path to the quarter-finals has opened up further following the shock second-round exit of world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. With Sinner no longer in the draw, Auger-Aliassime is now the highest-ranked player remaining in the top half of the men’s singles bracket.
The Canadian will next face Flavio Cobolli, who booked his place in the quarter-finals after overcoming Zachary Svajda in four sets. Cobolli dropped his first set of the tournament but held firm to secure a 6-2, 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-6(5) victory.
Speaking after the match, Auger-Aliassime reflected on the significance of his achievement and his connection to the tournament.
“I’m so happy. It’s a childhood dream to even play here. I came here for the first time when I was maybe 12, and it’s always been a dream to play here. I’m not French, but I feel at home,” he said.
