Bowlers did time for batters to perform

Date:

Auckland: India lose Murali Vijay cheaply in the mammoth chase, however, finished the third day of the first Test against New Zealand on 87-1 in pursuit of 407 after restricting the hosts for 105 in just 41.2 overs with a rejuvenated pace attack led by Zaheer and company.

Down and out when trailing by 301 on the first innings, India stormed back into the game with their score being just 320 short of what would be a remarkable comeback victory at Eden Park. New Zealand’s last pair Neil Wagner and Trent Boult managed to inch the hosts to three figures and avoid being the first Test side to score 500 then be bowled out for under 100. Indian pacemen Mohammed Shami (3-37) and Ishant Sharma (3-28) were the main destroyers for India and gave the tourists an outside chance after staring down the barrel during the morning session.
