Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings on Thursday announced the signing of South African all-rounder Dian Forrester as a replacement for injured pacer Jamie Overton for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2026 season.
Overton has been ruled out of the tournament due to a right thigh injury and will return to the United Kingdom for further medical assessment and rehabilitation.
Forrester joins the Chennai-based franchise for Rs 75 lakh. The South African all-rounder made his international debut earlier this year against New Zealand national cricket team and has featured in five international matches so far, scoring 83 runs.
The 24-year-old has built an impressive domestic record, scoring more than 1,000 runs in first-class cricket at an average above 45, while also averaging over 50 in List A cricket. In the T20 format, Forrester has scored 681 runs at a strike rate exceeding 140.
Overton had been one of CSK’s standout performers this season. The right-arm pacer is currently the franchise’s second-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets at an average of 17.78.
He was also named Player of the Match in Chennai’s previous outing after returning figures of 3/36 in a five-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk on May 11.
The franchise had earlier announced another replacement signing, bringing in Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha for injured bowling all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh.
Noronha earned recognition after winning the MA Chidambaram Trophy at the Naman Awards for finishing as the highest run-scorer in the 2024-25 Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy. He amassed 1,037 runs in 14 innings, including a highest score of 345, at an average of 79.77.
Chennai Super Kings will next face Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on May 15 as they continue their push for a playoff spot.
