Indian boxer Ankush Panghal advanced to the men’s 80kg final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow after registering a dominant unanimous decision victory over Canada’s Joshua Ofori in the semifinal on Friday.
With the win, Ankush has assured India of at least a silver medal and remains in contention for gold. The Indian pugilist showcased impressive speed, accuracy and composure throughout the bout to outclass his Canadian opponent.
Ankush made a strong start, landing clean combinations in the opening round, which all five judges scored in his favour. He maintained control in the second round as Ofori attempted to increase the intensity but lost a point for a blow to the back of Ankush’s head, further strengthening the Indian’s advantage.
In the final round, Ofori launched aggressive attacks in search of a comeback, but Ankush defended well and continued to land crucial punches to seal a unanimous decision victory.
The win adds to India’s impressive boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games, where several Indian boxers have already secured medals by reaching the semifinals and finals.
Earlier in the day, Preeti Pawar also booked her place in the women’s 54kg final with a commanding unanimous decision win over Zambia’s Catherine Mwape.
India’s medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 currently stands at 17 medals, including three gold, nine silver and five bronze, with boxing expected to contribute further to the country’s tally in the coming days.
