Australian opener David Warner, currently representing Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, has been charged with drink-driving following an incident in Maroubra, Sydney, on Tuesday.
According to Australian media reports, the 39-year-old was stopped by New South Wales Police during a random breath test after attempting to park his vehicle shortly before reaching the testing site. A roadside test reportedly revealed he had consumed alcohol above the legal limit.
At Maroubra Police Station, Warner returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.104, more than double Australia’s legal limit. He was subsequently charged and issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for “drive with middle-range PCA” and is scheduled to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Police said, “About 5:30 pm today, officers conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra, approached a vehicle that had stopped short of the testing site. Roadside testing returned a positive result.”
The incident cast a shadow over Warner’s PSL campaign, as he had been granted personal leave from the tournament to visit family between fixtures. Karachi Kings currently lead the PSL table with three consecutive wins, with Warner contributing 93 runs, including a crucial half-century against Rawalpindi.
The franchise is set to face Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, April 9, at Karachi’s National Stadium.
