Tennis legend Roger Federer returned to the US Open to receive his International Tennis Hall of Fame ring, just two days after being inducted into the Hall of Fame in Newport.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion was inducted alongside former American player and broadcaster Mary Carillo, adding another milestone to a remarkable career that saw Federer win 103 tour-level titles, including 20 major trophies.
International Tennis Hall of Fame President and 2017 inductee Kim Clijsters presented Federer with the ring at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Federer then raised his hand to show the ring to the crowd before pumping his fist as the stadium erupted in cheers.
Federer, who turned 45 last month, spent 310 weeks at No. 1 in the ATP Rankings, including a record 237 consecutive weeks at the top. He retired from professional tennis in 2022.
“What a pleasure to be back in New York,” Federer said.
He also reflected on his Hall of Fame induction and his long association with the US Open, saying the occasion gave him an opportunity to look back at the people who supported him throughout his career and the game he loved.
Federer also participated in an exhibition event at the US Open on August 25, sharing the court with fellow former world No. 1s. He played one set against Andy Roddick before partnering John McEnroe against Roddick and Andre Agassi.
The exhibition marked a nostalgic return to the tournament where Federer won five consecutive US Open titles from 2004 to 2008, cementing his enduring connection with New York and the Grand Slam.
