India Stays Unbeaten in Asian Champions Trophy, Defeats South Korea 3-1

Date:

Team India continued their dominant run in the Asian Champions Trophy, securing a convincing 3-1 victory over South Korea on Thursday at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir, China.

This win marked India’s fourth consecutive triumph in the tournament, keeping them unbeaten as they gear up for the semi-finals. India’s win sets up a highly anticipated clash against their arch-rivals, Pakistan, in their next match.

Araijeet Singh Hundal gave India an early edge, netting a superb goal in the 8th minute after receiving a precise pass from Vivek Sagar Prasad. His clinical finish set the tone for India’s aggressive start. Just a minute later, captain Harmanpreet Singh added to the tally with a powerful strike from a penalty corner, taking India to a 2-0 lead and marking his 200th international goal — a major personal milestone for the Indian skipper.

Despite India’s early dominance, South Korea fought back with resilience. After initially struggling to contain India’s attacking momentum, they found their rhythm in the second quarter. Tightening their defence and applying pressure on India, South Korea began to push forward. Their efforts were rewarded in the final minutes of the half, when Jihun Yang capitalized on a penalty corner to pull one back for his team, making the score 2-1.

The third quarter was a hard-fought battle, with both sides earning multiple penalty corners. However, it was India who made the most of their opportunities, with Harmanpreet Singh scoring yet again, this time with a powerful drag-flick that gave India a comfortable 3-1 advantage.

Goalkeeper Suraj Karkera made crucial saves to ensure that Korea couldn’t find the back of the net, securing yet another victory in the tournament.
