World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continued his dominant run on the ATP Tour, defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to clinch the Madrid Open title on Sunday.
Sinner produced a clinical performance at the Manolo Santana Stadium, easing to a 6-1, 6-2 victory without facing a single break point, while also extending his winning streak against Zverev to nine matches.
With the triumph, the Italian became the first player in history to win five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles, adding Madrid to his recent titles in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo.
The 24-year-old has been nearly unstoppable, dropping just two sets across these five title runs, underlining his dominance on both hard and clay courts.
Reflecting on the milestone, Sinner credited his success to discipline and consistency.
“I think there is a lot of work behind it… a lot of dedication and sacrifice I put in every day,” he said, adding that while the results are rewarding, fluctuations in form are a natural part of the sport.
Sinner also highlighted the role of his team in his success, saying their support has been crucial in maintaining his level across tournaments.
