Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a rain-interrupted clash on Wednesday.
Chasing a modest target of 148, KKR rode on crucial contributions from Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell to complete the chase in 18.5 overs.
After opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians endured a poor start and were reduced to 41/4 inside six overs. The KKR bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings, restricting MI to 147/8 in their 20 overs.
Hardik Pandya attempted to stabilise the innings with a 26-run knock, while Tilak Varma contributed 20. The pair added 43 runs for the fifth wicket but struggled to accelerate against disciplined bowling.
Corbin Bosch provided late momentum with an unbeaten 32 off just 18 balls, helping Mumbai reach a competitive total after their top-order collapse.
For KKR, Saurabh Dubey and Kartik Tyagi claimed two wickets each, while Cameron Green also picked up two scalps. Veteran spinner Sunil Narine delivered an economical spell, finishing with figures of 1/13.
In reply, KKR suffered a few early setbacks but recovered through a vital 64-run partnership between Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell.
Pandey top-scored with 45, while Powell played an aggressive knock of 40 to keep the chase on track. Rinku Singh eventually sealed the victory with the winning runs.
Despite ending on the losing side, Corbin Bosch impressed with the ball as well, picking up 3/30 for MI. Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah and AM Ghazanfar took one wicket each.
The win keeps KKR mathematically alive in the race for the playoffs, while Mumbai Indians remain out of contention after another disappointing outing in the season.
