Mumbai Indians defeats Gujarat lions by six wickets. Thanks to skipper Rohit Sharma‘s knock of 48 coming from just 26 balls, stood till last and won the match for his team on his home ground.
Chasing 177, Mumbai encountered early troubles when they lost their wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who was dismissed by pacer Praveen Yadav in the second ball of the innings. However, Mumbai replied well by building a good partnership between Buttler and Nitish Rana. Buttler went ahead and scored a half century before inform Batsman Pollard continued his form by hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours.

After the dismissal of Buttler, the in-form Pollard and skipper Rohit Sharma took the responsibility on their shoulders and both of them added 68 runs for the 4 wickets. In the 19th over, when 17 runs were needed with remaining 11 balls, Andrew Tye, who took hat-trick in last match, dismissed Pollard as he went for another big shot but was caught by Jadeja in the deep. However, much to the Mumbai Indian’s delight, their skipper Rohit Sharma is back in form and played a sensible knock, dealing with leg spinners googlies and ensured that he was there till his team won the match. Nitish Rana won the match for his crucial contribution to the team with his cracking 53 runs in 36 balls.

Earlier winning the toss, Mumbai decided to chase in their home ground Wankhede Stadium. With McCullum’s elegant knock of 64 and Karthik’s  48, the Gujarat Lions managed to give a daunting target of 177. While Mitchell McClenaghan bowled well taking two wickets and conceding just 24 runs, it wasn’t a day for Lasith Malinga who gave away 51 runs with an economy of 12.75 and took only one wicket. In the end, Mumbai’s win ensured that they are on the top of the table with 8 points after winning four matches.
