India’s star men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have withdrawn from the Indonesia Open 2026 after Satwiksairaj suffered an injury, bringing an abrupt end to their campaign in Jakarta.
The withdrawal was confirmed by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) on Wednesday, shortly after the Indian duo retired from their men’s doubles first-round match against Malaysia’s Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing.
In a statement, the BAI said Satwik and Chirag would now focus on recovery and rehabilitation before returning to competition. The association also wished Satwik a speedy recovery as the pair prepare for upcoming tournaments.
The setback comes just days after the Indian duo ended a two-year title drought on the BWF World Tour by winning the prestigious Singapore Open 2026. Satwik and Chirag produced a stirring comeback in the final to defeat Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Fikri 18-21, 21-17, 21-16, becoming the first Indian men’s doubles pair to win the Singapore Open title.
The victory marked their first World Tour crown since the Thailand Open and reinforced their status as one of the world’s leading doubles combinations.
With the withdrawal of Satwik and Chirag, India’s hopes at the Indonesia Open now rest on its remaining contingent. In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Ayush Shetty and Kidambi Srikanth continue the challenge.
The country’s only remaining men’s doubles pair in the tournament is MR Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan.
In women’s singles, India’s campaign is led by PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda and Malvika Bansod. The women’s doubles draw features Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, while mixed doubles representation comes from Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde, along with Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto.
