Shubman Gill Fined for Slow Over Rate As GT Edge DC In Thriller

Date:

New Delhi: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during the team’s IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.

According to an IPL media advisory, this was Gujarat Titans’ first over-rate offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations.

Gill became the second captain to be penalised this season after Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer, who has already been fined twice for similar offences.

Despite the penalty, Gill led from the front with the bat, scoring a fluent 70 off 45 balls, including four boundaries and five sixes, to help Gujarat Titans post a challenging total.

In a nail-biting finish, the Titans secured a one-run victory, successfully defending 211. Prasidh Krishna held his nerve in the final over, defending 13 runs as Delhi Capitals fell just short.

The match saw late drama as Kuldeep Yadav was run out at the striker’s end, while David Miller missed the final ball after declining a single on the penultimate delivery.

As per IPL rules, a first over-rate offence results in a Rs 12 lakh fine for the captain. A second offence leads to a Rs 24 lakh fine for the captain and additional penalties for the playing XI, while repeated breaches attract steeper fines.
