Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed South African pacer Gerald Coetzee for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, replacing England seamer David Payne, who has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
According to an official IPL release, Coetzee joins the squad for ₹2 crore. The right-arm pacer brings international experience, having represented South Africa in four Tests, 14 ODIs and 18 T20Is, claiming 67 wickets across formats.
Coetzee has prior IPL experience, having played 14 matches for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. He has taken 15 wickets in the league, including an extended run with Mumbai during the 2024 season.
Payne’s stint, meanwhile, was cut short after just two appearances. The left-arm pacer impressed on debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, returning figures of 2/35 and dismissing Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma. He went wicketless in his next outing against Kolkata Knight Riders before being sidelined.
SRH have had a mixed campaign so far, winning two of their five matches and sitting fifth on the points table with a net run rate of +0.576. The franchise will look to Coetzee to bolster their bowling attack as they push for a playoff spot.
