A clinical all-round performance powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to a 33-run win over Punjab Kings in their IPL clash on Wednesday, with the hosts climbing to the top of the points table.
Riding on half-centuries from Heinrich Klaasen (69 off 43) and Ishan Kishan (55 off 32), SRH posted a formidable 235/4 on a batting-friendly surface. Abhishek Sharma (35 off 13) and Travis Head (38 off 19) laid the foundation with an explosive start.
In reply, PBKS never recovered from a poor powerplay and were undone despite a valiant unbeaten century from Cooper Connolly (107* off 59), eventually falling short as SRH sealed a comfortable victory.
The match turned decisively during the powerplays, with SRH racing to 79/1 in six overs, while PBKS managed just 57/3. Poor fielding further compounded Punjab’s woes, as multiple dropped catches allowed Klaasen and Kishan to capitalise.
SRH skipper Pat Cummins led from the front with the ball as well, picking up two key wickets, while their bowlers held their nerve to defend the big total.
With this win, SRH moved to 14 points and atop the standings, needing just one more victory from their remaining matches to virtually secure a playoff berth.
