US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Washington would end its “Operation Epic Fury” and lift the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz if Iran agrees to ceasefire conditions, while warning that failure to comply would trigger intensified military action.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the move would allow the Strait of Hormuz to be “open to all, including Iran,” but added that if Tehran does not accept the terms, “the bombing starts” and would be carried out at a much higher intensity.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf, following earlier US efforts under “Project Freedom” aimed at securing maritime routes in the region.
Reacting to the evolving situation, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said a “new equation” in the Strait of Hormuz is taking shape, accusing the US and its allies of undermining shipping security through ceasefire violations and blockade measures.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged rising prices in the country, attributing them partly to the ongoing conflict, while warning against profiteering and hoarding.
Trump’s remarks came hours after he signalled a pause in US military operations in the region, citing progress towards a “complete and final agreement” with Iranian representatives.
