Trump Proposes Iran Joint Venture to Secure Strait of Hormuz

Date:

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the United States is considering a “joint venture” with Iran to secure the Strait of Hormuz, even as a fragile two-week ceasefire holds in the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Speaking to ABC News, Trump suggested the arrangement could help stabilise one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes. “We’re thinking of doing it as a joint venture. It’s a way of securing it, also securing it from lots of other people. It’s a beautiful thing,” he said.

The US President also reiterated Washington’s firm stance on Iran’s nuclear programme, stating there would be no allowance for uranium enrichment despite Tehran’s position. “There won’t be any enrichment,” he said.

Trump expressed optimism that peace talks could begin soon and progress quickly, adding that China had played a role in engaging with Iran. He also made clear that US forces would remain in the region to enforce any future agreement.

The remarks come hours after Trump announced a “double-sided ceasefire” with Iran, suspending US bombing operations for two weeks to allow space for negotiations. He said the move followed discussions with Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
