Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Monday (local time) launched a fresh attack on the media and his political opponents, claiming they would distort the outcome of any confrontation with Iran even if Tehran were to suffer a complete military defeat and formally surrender.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump outlined a hypothetical scenario in which Iran’s military capabilities were entirely dismantled and its leadership publicly acknowledged defeat to the United States. He argued that despite such an outcome, sections of the media and Democratic leaders would still portray Iran as the victor.
Trump described a situation in which Iran’s navy and air force were destroyed, its military forces withdrew from Tehran, and its leadership signed what he referred to as “documents of surrender.” He said that even under those circumstances, critics would continue to misrepresent the outcome.
The US President specifically targeted several major media organisations, alleging that they would present Iran as having secured a victory over the United States regardless of the facts on the ground. Trump also criticised Democrats, using a derogatory nickname for the party, and accused both political opponents and sections of the media of losing perspective
The remarks come amid heightened tensions surrounding Iran and ongoing discussions over a possible agreement aimed at extending a ceasefire and reviving negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Earlier, Trump had expressed optimism about the prospects of reaching a deal with Iran, stating that Tehran was interested in an agreement that would benefit both the United States and its allies. He had also urged critics to allow negotiations to proceed without constant public commentary, arguing that such interventions complicate diplomatic efforts.
