As hostilities between Iran and Israel intensify, India has launched a phased evacuation of its citizens from the conflict zone. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Tuesday that the first group of 110 Indian nationals, who successfully crossed into neighboring Armenia, will be flown back to Delhi on Wednesday.

In a statement released earlier in the day, the MEA said Indian students in Tehran have already been relocated from the Iranian capital due to safety concerns. “Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy,” the statement read.

Other Indian nationals residing in Iran who are capable of arranging their own transport have been advised to leave Tehran immediately as the security situation continues to deteriorate. Some citizens have also been assisted in exiting Iran through land routes, including crossings into Armenia.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran is maintaining close contact with the Indian community in Iran and has urged all those who have not yet reached out to the embassy to do so immediately. Nationals have been asked to provide their current location and contact details to ensure timely assistance.
The evacuation efforts come amid ongoing military exchanges between Iran and Israel, now in their fifth day. The conflict has seen waves of missile strikes on both sides, severely impacting civilian populations. Reports indicate that at least 224 people have died in Iran and 24 in Israel since the start of the confrontation.
Tensions escalated dramatically after Israel launched ‘Operation Rising Lion,’ targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure last week. The operation triggered a sharp response from Tehran, pushing the two regional rivals closer to all-out war.
