AAP Workers Scuffle With Police Amid Protest Over Sanjay Singh’s Arrest

Date:

New Delhi: Amid the Aam Aadmi Party stir against Sanjay Singh’s arrest, protestors attempted to breach police barricades at DDU Marg in an effort to reach the Delhi BJP headquarters, but law enforcement intervened and halted their progress.

A minor scuffle between AAP workers and the police was reported during the incident. Senior leaders Gopal Rai and Atishi, along with hundreds of AAP workers, participated in the protest.

“Why was Sanjay Singh arrested when there was nothing found in his house during the ED raid, all on the directives of BJP and the Prime Minister?” asked Rai.

A top ED official told media that Singh has been detained under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) without divulging further particulars.

The arrest follows the agency’s financial investigation, which involved searches at his residence in the North Avenue area on Wednesday.

Singh becomes the second top leader of the AAP to face arrest in connection with the alleged liquor scam case, following the arrest of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February and by the ED in March.

The ED has submitted four charge sheets in the case, explicitly naming Singh. The money laundering case stems from the CBI FIR filed in August of the previous year, addressing complaints of irregularities in the Delhi excise policy.
