  • This decision comes after weeks of severe nationwide turmoil, which began with student protests over a disputed quota system for government jobs and grew into a larger movement seeking Hasina’s departure.

  • As the situation deteriorated, sources say that Hasina and her sister left Dhaka for India under military guard. This move signals a momentous shift in Bangladesh’s political scene, bringing an end to Hasina’s long reign as prime minister.
  • The rallies, fuelled by frustrations over corruption, unemployment, and Hasina’s autocratic administration, brought together a diverse coalition of students, opposition members, and civil society organisations. The resignation has placed the country in a state of uncertainty, with immediate political and economic implications.
  • Observers believe that this might be a watershed moment for Bangladesh, changing its political and social fabric. The world community is keeping a close eye on the situation as the country faces an unprecedented catastrophe.
