India on Tuesday strongly rebuffed Pakistan’s criticism of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, asserting that the matter is entirely internal and that Islamabad has no standing to comment on it.
Responding to media queries, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We strongly reject the motivated and baseless comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Amendment Act enacted by the Parliament of India. Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on a matter that is internal to India.”
In a sharp counter, Jaiswal also urged Pakistan to examine its own track record on minority rights. “Pakistan would do better to look at its own abysmal record when it comes to protecting the rights of minorities, instead of preaching to others,” he added.

The sharp response came after Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, during his weekly media briefing, described the Indian law as a tool to “dispossess Muslims from their properties including mosques and shrines.” He also claimed it was part of a broader pattern of minority marginalisation in India.
The Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, which was passed by both Houses of Parliament earlier this month following extensive debates, received Presidential assent from Droupadi Murmu and came into force last week.
