Authorities have identified 24-year-old Benjamin Erickson as the suspect in the deadly shooting at Brown University that left two people dead and nine others injured. Erickson is currently in custody as investigations continue into the motive behind the incident.

According to law enforcement officials, Erickson has no prior criminal record. Investigators are examining what they believe could be an extensive mental health history and are also probing any possible connections between the suspect and Brown University. Officials have not yet confirmed a clear motive for the attack.

Public records indicate that Erickson currently resides in Washington, DC, where he was registered to vote in 2023. Earlier records show he was registered to vote in Wisconsin in 2020, listing his status as “military” under voter information.

The US Army has confirmed details of Erickson’s military background. Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ruth Castro stated that Benjamin W. Erickson served as an infantryman in the Regular Army from May 2021 to November 2024. He had no overseas deployments and left the Army with the rank of specialist.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the Brown University community, prompting heightened security measures and renewed discussions on campus safety. Authorities have assured that the investigation is ongoing and that further details will be released as they become available.
