Bumrah, Karn Lead MI To Emphatic Win; RR Knocked Out Of Playoff Race

Date:

A ruthless performance from Mumbai Indians (MI) saw them register a thumping victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) and claim the top spot in the IPL 2025 points table. With this defeat, RR become the second team after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to be officially knocked out of the tournament.

The high-stakes clash at the Wankhede saw MI extend their winning streak to six matches — a sign of their unstoppable momentum heading into the final stages of the league.

Rajasthan, who introduced 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi as an opener once again, had a forgettable outing. The youngster’s dream run took a harsh turn as he was dismissed for a golden duck in the very first over, unable to cope with the searing pace of Jason Behrendorff. That early setback was just the beginning of a dramatic collapse.

Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to counterattack with two towering sixes off Trent Boult but was bowled later in the same over, triggering a sensational new low for the Royals. Jasprit Bumrah, with trademark precision, delivered a game-changing over by removing two middle-order batters, reducing RR to tatters inside the powerplay. In a shocking first this season, RR lost five wickets within the first six overs.

Karn Sharma came in as an Impact Player and made an immediate impact, bagging three key wickets and suffocating any hopes of a Royals comeback. Only a defiant cameo from Jofra Archer (30 off 19 balls, including two sixes) at the end prolonged the inevitable, as he and the No. 11 survived over four overs to push RR past the 100-run mark.

Earlier in the first inning, Half-centuries from openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma, coupled with fiery cameos from Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, powered the Mumbai Indians to 217/2 against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday.
